I liked especially the partial differential equation ploy.You were the princess and are now the queen, according a royal treatment to the oldest branch of engineering and also to pets. Your book on ice reminds me of the great books on sand dunes, and who can better describe ice rivers than a civil engineer knowing vector calculus,PDEs and hydrodynamics, this also being your dissertation area?
I wonder how the senior professor handled Kenny Baker! Hope your next revision mentions that.

I’m working with your Christmas book for the ukulele beginner. I was hoping to find that you had some online assistance, perhaps some songs I could play along with. I’m 84, never played a musical instrument and have a bit of arthritis in my hands. I’m being quite slow but I’m improving, so I think I can do this! I’ve read other materials but your book is most helpful to me.

There are song sheets and videos to play along with for quite a few beginner tunes as well as some videos on learning chords. Hope you get a chance to check those out! 😀

I was a student of yours over 10 years ago now (I graduated in 2008). I just wanted to say that your teachings have really shaped my career and who I am as a person. I have been working in the field of land development since graduating and I’ve been applying the knowledge and skills gained in your course throughout my career. Your in-class demeanor has always stuck with me as being one of the most effective and positive ones, so I thought I would reach out and let you know in the hopes that it would brighten your day and provide a little reinforcement to keep doing what you’re doing. I still keep a journal of my time and notes because of the design project I did in your class. I don’t know if you remember me, but I asked you to write a reference letter for my very first job at Stantec and I am so very grateful that you obliged. That job was a major stepping stone and truly set me on the trajectory which led me to where I am today. I moved from Edmonton to Vancouver 3 years ago and I have still carried your teachings with me. To this day, over a decade later, I still speak highly of your course to colleagues and friends of mine. Please accept my sincerest thanks for being a positive influence in my life (and surely the lives of many other students).

I bought your book A Ukulele Book For The
Complete Beginner hoping to learn to play the Ukulele.
The book helps but after teaching me a few common chords I am suddenly told to play Amazing Grace without guiding me step by step as to how to go about go about playing the instrument although the chords are shown. Isn’t it necessary to play to 4/4, 3/4 time etc. This is not taught in your book. You have to remember we the readers are total beginners.
Thanks so much for buying my book! You make a good point – I will keep that in mind for future versions of the book. In the meantime though – if you look at the ukulele course on my website you will see complete materials for a free 5-part course (including material on the 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures). This material also includes instructional videos to play along with. Hope you find it helps you to get going with your uke. Happy strumming!
